December 7, 1941
7:49 am 183 Japanese planes attacked the Pacific fleet stationed in the harbor
8:55 am another 167 planes continued the attack on land-based air fields and oil reserves
A third wave was called off because of time needed and the fact that during the second wave several American planes had made it off the ground and were inflicting substantial damage. Two-thirds of all Japanese losses came during the second wave.
Also, the location of the American aircraft carriers was unknown.
